Family Office Club has announced the establishment of an 8 MW / 40 MWh battery energy storage facility in Kirke Hyllinge through the FOC Green Investment I project. Developed in partnership with Auxilium Infrastructure Partners (AIP) and NT Energy, the project is the first battery facility with five hours of capacity in Denmark, meaning it can deliver full output for five hours. It is designed to provide system services to the power grid and participate in energy market trading.
Family Office Club has structured and secured financing for the project through its network of individual family offices and private investors. This has enabled a fast and efficient capital raise while ensuring a high degree of execution certainty.
“This project represents an attractive opportunity to invest in critical energy infrastructure with strong underlying market drivers. We see a structural shift toward longer-duration storage and advanced system services, and FOC Green Investment I is positioned to capture this value from day one,” says Lars Skovbjerg, Director at Family Office Club.
The facility marks a shift in the design of battery infrastructure in Denmark. While existing facilities are primarily optimised for short-duration frequency services, this project is built to keep power flowing for hours rather than minutes. This enables participation across a broader range of system services while also contributing to greater robustness in the power system.
The project is also prepared for future grid-forming functionality, including the provision of synthetic inertia, the battery’s ability to replicate the stabilising inertia contribution of large power plants. The facility will therefore be able to actively support both frequency and voltage stabilisation in the grid, a capability expected to become increasingly important as conventional generation is phased out.
“We are seeing a significant shift in the requirements for flexible assets. The combination of longer duration and grid-forming capabilities is crucial to delivering the system services that a power system dominated by wind and solar needs, including around-the-clock frequency regulation and voltage stabilisation,” says David Scherer, Managing Partner at Auxilium Infrastructure Partners.
Family Office Club acts as financing partner and capital arranger through FOC Green Investment I, with a focus on mobilising capital to scale flexible and sustainable energy infrastructure. Auxilium Infrastructure Partners is responsible for project development and contributes an integrated platform for the optimisation and control of flexible assets. NT Energy contributes specialised expertise in battery implementation and the circular application of battery technology.
The project is expected to be commissioned in Q3 2026.
FOC Green Investment I is a concrete step toward a more robust and flexible Danish power system, and an example of how private capital can play an active role in the green transition.
